Launch in January 2015, Express Entry system is an electronic process for selecting young, skilled, educated and English or French ready professionals to Canada. Express Entry administers four permanent residence programs

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW)
  • Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Enhanced Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Each program has different minimum eligibility requirements. Following steps are taken for Express Entry application.

  • Eligibility Assessment: Find out which of the four programs you can apply
  • If you are eligible for one of the programs, then register an online profile and enter your background information
  • Calculate and find out an accurate Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points
  • Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
  • Submit an online application
  • Receive a permanent residence visa

Designed to counteract Canada’s rapidly aging and decreasing population and labour force, eligible Express Entry candidates are awarded CRS points based on their age, education, English/French test score, and skilled work experience. Express Entry is a competition-based system where only the candidates with high CRS points will be selected for an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Only the candidates with ITAs can apply for permanent residence in Express Entry, with average processing time being 6 months or shorter

Successful Express Entry candidates with ITAs typically have

  • Advanced Level Education
  • Strong and fluent English or French Proficiency
  • Multiple Years of Work Experience in Skilled Job(s)
  • Demonstrated Establishment to Canada
  • Employability in Canada (i.e. Qualifying Job Offer, Express Entry Stream Provincial Nomination)

To prepare an application under Express Entry, an applicant needs to do the following

  • Determine level and occupation of your work experience
  • Write English or French language test (CELPIP, IELTS or TEF)
  • Complete Educational Credential Assessment by a designated third-party organization
  • Check if you have any inadmissibility issue (Health, Criminality, Misrepresentation, Previous Refusals)
  • Find out if you can receive endorsement from certain province or a Canadian employer
